Farewell, Maricarmen Protest from Puerta del Sol to Maricarmen’s Home: Dozens of people hold up signs during the Farewell, Maricarmen protest, from Puerta del Sol to Maricarmen’s home, on October 8, 2026, in Madrid, Spain. Many people have left candles, flowers, and signs of encouragement next to the doorway from which Maricarmen was evicted two weeks ago, hours after the death of the 87-year-old woman was announced. To profit from homes is to traffic in lives. Let housing cost no more lives. Thank you, Maricarmen, reads one of the messages of gratitude.
